A Redemptorist brother, St. Gerard was known for his missionary zeal, ability to preach, and advocate of confession. He is also known as the patron saint of mothers and was said to have helped mothers in need during his life and many have requested his intercession for help in obtaining the blessings of motherhood and in the difficulties attendant on motherhood. Thus his patronage includes: childbirth, children, expectant mothers, falsely accused people, good confessions, lay brothers, motherhood, and unborn children.
